Tripletail

Tripletail are a semi-tropical pelagic species that can be found throughout Florida.  Typically a surface fish, tripletail are often found lounging around floating debris waiting for an unsuspecting shrimp or crab to come floating by.  The average size of a Nature Coast Tripletail is around 4-6lbs but they can grow up to 40 pounds.

Anglers lucky enough to land one of these tasty fish have to be very careful when handling them.  Tripletail have very sharp teeth and spines with razors for gills, so handle them with care.

Peak tripletail fishing occurs during the months of October-May, as this is Florida’s annual stone crab season.  During stone crab season thousands of buoys are littered just off our coast and it’s these buoys that are utilized by tripletail to ambush their prey.
