Black Drum

Black drum are the bigger brothers of the red drum (redfish) and are often found around the same structures.  Oyster bars, docks, and limestone flats are all prime black drum habitats and choice baits used to catch these fish include live shrimp, blue crabs, rock crabs, and a variety of fly patterns.

Black Drum are often confused with sheepshead due their similar stripe patterns.  The easiest way to tell the difference between the two are by looking at their mouths.  Black drum do not have teeth like sheepshead, instead they use crushers in their throats to manage their meals.
