Pompano

Pompano are a very close relative of permit and the two are often mistaken for each other.  While permit can reach weights in excess of 40lbs, Florida pompano hover around the 2-4lb mark.  Although these fish run smaller than their cousins their forked tails and sleek bodies still make these fish a real challenge on light tackle.

Pompano are also widely regarded as one of the tastiest fish found it Florida waters and their market price reflects that.  Their steady diet of shrimp, crab, and sand fleas sweetens up their flesh and it has often been said that the only way to ruin a pompano fillet is by burning it.
