Gag Grouper

Grouper are famously known as Florida’s most delicious fish species and of the seventeen different grouper species that are targeted throughout Florida the gag grouper is the most common variety found inhabiting the waters off the Nature Coast.

Mostly considered an offshore species, juvenile gags mature in bays and deeper grass flats close to shore and often surprise unsuspecting anglers while they are fishing for other inshore species.  Anglers looking to land a mature 24” slot fish will find that fishing the vast areas of shallow rocks, wrecks, and reefs off our coast to be a for sure bet.  Casting lipped plugs, trolling diving lures, and bottom fishing with live and dead baits will all trigger strikes from the very territorial and often hungry gag grouper.
